Doha gold rate at a glance

At the last update, one gram of 24k gold in Doha works out to about 476.55 QAR, and a gram of 22k to about 436.86 QAR. Per 10 grams, a common size for small bars and rate boards, that is about 4,765.53 QAR for 24k. These are spot-based figures, before any tax, premium or making charge. Qatar has no VAT, so a Doha shelf price is the gold value plus the making charge and the shop's margin, and imported jewellery also carries the 5% Gulf customs duty. Gold may not be sold without a hallmark, and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry inspects gold shops across Qatar.

What moves the gold price in Doha

Two numbers set the gold price in Doha: the international price in US dollars, about $4,072.1 per ounce at the last update, and the USD/QAR exchange rate, now 3.6400. The riyal is pegged to the US dollar at 3.64, so the riyal gold price is the dollar price multiplied by a constant. Almost every move you see on a Doha rate board comes from gold itself.

The dollar price itself responds to US interest-rate expectations, the strength of the dollar, inflation data, central-bank buying and geopolitical risk. Our guide to what moves gold prices covers each in turn.

Premiums, making charges and tax in Doha

The shelf price in Doha is higher than the converted figure above. A shop adds making charges, the shop's margin and the 5% customs duty on imported jewellery (Qatar has no VAT). On jewellery, making charges are quoted per gram or per piece and usually open to negotiation, so two pieces of the same weight and purity can carry very different prices. Qatar's hallmarking law sets legal gold standards of 23.5, 22, 21, 18, 16, 14 and 12 karat, and gold may not be sold unless it is hallmarked.

Where gold is bought in Doha

The Gold Souq in Souq Najada, beside Souq Waqif in central Doha, opened in July 2018 with about 50 gold shops under one roof, and the jewellery floors of the big malls host the chains. When comparing shops, ask for the gold rate per gram, the purity, the making charge and the buy-back price separately; that is the only way to see which offer is really cheaper.

Buying seasons in Doha

The Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition, organised by Qatar Tourism at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, is the year's high-end showcase; the 2026 edition ran from 28 September to 3 October. Across Qatar, demand is strongest around Eid, the wedding season and, for the large South Asian community, Diwali and Akshaya Tritiya. Seasonal demand tends to show up in shop premiums, promotions and queues rather than in the international price, which is set by global flows. Knowing the calendar helps explain why a local quote can look expensive or cheap against this page in a given week.

Gold market hours in Doha

The international gold market trades almost around the clock on weekdays. In Doha the London–New York overlap, usually the busiest and most volatile part of the day, runs today from about 16:00–20:00 local time. The two LBMA Gold Price auctions in London, at 10:30 and 15:00 London time, fall at 13:30 and 18:00 in Doha, and major US data released at 08:30 New York time, such as payrolls and inflation, lands at 16:30 local time. The week's trading closes at 01:00 on Saturday and reopens at 02:00 on Monday, Doha time; over the weekend the price on this page is the last close. Qatar has no gold exchange of its own, so shops price off the international rate, and the annual Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition is the trade's showcase. Our gold market hours tool shows the sessions in any time zone.

Doha compared with Dubai

A common question is whether gold is cheaper in Dubai. On the converted spot price neither city is cheaper: Dubai quotes about 480.81 AED per gram of 24k, which is the same $130.92 per gram as Doha's 476.55 QAR. What differs is what each market adds. In Doha that is making charges, the shop's margin and the 5% customs duty on imported jewellery (Qatar has no VAT); in Dubai it is 5% VAT on jewellery (investment gold of at least 99% purity in a form tradeable on bullion markets is zero-rated), 5% customs duty on imported jewellery, making charges and the shop's margin. Buying abroad also means paying an exchange margin and checking the customs allowance at home.

How this QAR gold price is calculated

Three numbers decide everything on this page. First, the international gold price in US dollars per troy ounce: $4,072.1 at the last update. Second, the exchange rate: 1 USD = 3.6400 QAR. Third, the weight: one troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, and one tola is 11.6638 grams.

  1. Price per gram in USD = $4,072.1 ÷ 31.1035 = $130.92.
  2. Price per gram in QAR = $130.92 × 3.6400 = 476.55 QAR (24k, pure gold).
  3. Price per 10 grams = 476.55 × 10 = 4,765.53 QAR.
  4. For a lower purity, multiply by the fineness: 22k = 0.9167, 21k = 0.875, 18k = 0.75.

The gold price is the spot price of gold (XAUUSD) from a public real-time feed, refreshed every few seconds while the page is open; the 7-day table and the 30-session chart use COMEX gold futures closes, which usually sit a few dollars above spot. The exchange rate is a mid-market rate; the rate your bank or money changer gives you will be slightly different. If you want to do the maths yourself, our guide to converting the gold price per gram, tola and kilo walks through every step with worked examples.

What this price does not include

The figures above are the international spot price converted into local currency. They are the starting point for every retail price in Doha, but they are not the price you will pay or receive at a shop. The shop price adds some or all of these on top:

  • Import duty or customs charges, where gold or jewellery is imported.
  • Sales tax or VAT, where the country charges one. Many countries tax jewellery but not investment bars; the sections above say what applies here.
  • Dealer premium: the margin a bullion dealer or bank adds to the spot price for bars and coins, usually larger on small pieces.
  • Making charges (labour) on jewellery, often a percentage of the gold value or a fixed amount per gram.
  • Local supply and demand, which can push the physical price to a premium or a discount against the international price for weeks at a time.

When you sell, the buyer usually quotes below the spot-based number and deducts for purity testing, wear and sometimes stones. The gap between the buying and the selling price is the real cost of owning physical gold, and it varies a lot between shops, so it is worth asking several.

Education only. This page shows the international gold price converted for Doha for learning and comparison. It is not a quote, not a recommendation to buy or sell, and not financial advice. Prices change constantly and your local dealer's rate will differ.

Frequently asked questions

What is the gold rate today in Doha?

At the last update, 24k gold in Doha was about 476.55 QAR per gram and 4,765.53 QAR per 10 grams, with 22k at about 436.86 QAR per gram. That is the international price converted at the latest exchange rate; the figures at the top of the page refresh automatically. Shop prices in Doha are higher because they add making charges, the shop’s margin and the 5% customs duty on imported jewellery (Qatar has no VAT).

What is the difference between 22k and 24k gold in Doha?

24k is pure gold (99.9%); 22k is 91.67% gold, so it costs about 8.3% less per gram: roughly 436.86 QAR against 476.55 QAR today. Qatar’s hallmarking law sets legal gold standards of 23.5, 22, 21, 18, 16, 14 and 12 karat, and gold may not be sold unless it is hallmarked. You pay for the gold content, so always check the stated purity and hallmark.

Why is the jeweller's price in Doha different from this page?

This page shows the spot price converted into QAR with nothing added. A shop in Doha adds making charges, the shop’s margin and the 5% customs duty on imported jewellery (Qatar has no VAT). Making charges are quoted per gram or per piece and usually open to negotiation. Shops may also update their rate only a few times a day, so on fast-moving days their board can lag the live price in either direction.

Is gold cheaper in Dubai than in Doha?

On the converted international price, neither is cheaper: 476.55 QAR per gram in Doha and 480.81 AED in Dubai are both about $130.92. The shelf price differs because of local costs. In Doha a shop adds making charges, the shop’s margin and the 5% customs duty on imported jewellery (Qatar has no VAT); in Dubai it adds 5% VAT on jewellery (investment gold of at least 99% purity in a form tradeable on bullion markets is zero-rated), 5% customs duty on imported jewellery, making charges and the shop’s margin. If you buy abroad, also count the exchange margin and your home country’s customs rules, which can cancel out a small saving.

When is the best time to buy gold in Doha?

We cannot tell you when to buy, and nobody can forecast prices reliably. What is known is the calendar: in Doha, demand peaks around Eid, the wedding season and, for the large South Asian community, Diwali and Akshaya Tritiya, which tends to affect shop premiums and promotions rather than the international price. The price itself moves most during the London–New York overlap, about 16:00–20:00 local time. Compare today’s figure with the 7-day table and 30-session chart, and decide based on your own reasons and time frame. This is education, not advice.

Where is gold sold in Doha?

The Gold Souq in Souq Najada, beside Souq Waqif in central Doha, opened in July 2018 with about 50 gold shops under one roof, and the jewellery floors of the big malls host the chains. Ask each shop for the gold rate, purity, making charge and buy-back price separately before comparing.
