Daily bars from Yahoo Finance (gold and silver: COMEX futures; oil: WTI futures), data fetched and . “Latest” is the most recent daily bar, which is still moving while that market trades. Day = against the previous daily close; week = against the last close of the previous week; yield changes are in basis points (1 bp = 0.01 percentage point). Correlation = Pearson correlation of daily returns with gold over the last 30 or 90 trading days (+1 moves together, −1 opposite).

How gold has been moving with the others

  • Gold and the US dollar index: −.40 over 90 days (moderate negative).
  • Gold and the US 10-year yield: −.14 over 90 days (weak negative).
  • Gold and crude oil: −.25 over 90 days (weak negative).
  • Gold and the S&P 500: +.44 over 90 days (moderate positive).
  • Gold and silver: +.85 over 90 days (strong positive).

A negative number means gold has tended to move the other way on the same days. Use it to understand the backdrop, for example why gold fell on a day the dollar jumped, not as a trading signal.

Use it with the weekly sheet

The weekly gold cheat sheet lists this week’s levels and events; the daily analysis has today’s pivots. Check the scoreboard before the session to see whether the dollar and yields are pushing with or against gold.

Where the numbers come from

Spot gold (XAUUSD) and spot silver (XAGUSD) come from the public gold-api.com feed. The board uses daily bars from Yahoo Finance: COMEX gold and silver futures, the ICE US dollar index, the CBOE 10-year Treasury yield index, WTI crude oil futures and the S&P 500. Correlations are computed by the site from the same daily closes. When a source fails, its row is left out instead of showing an old or made-up number.

Frequently asked questions

Are these prices live?

Spot gold and spot silver are live: they come from a public real-time feed and refresh every 10 seconds while the market trades. The cross-market board shows daily bars (US dollar index, 10-year yield, oil, S&P 500 and the futures prices), refreshed when the site rebuilds; each block shows the time its data was fetched, in your own time zone.

What does the correlation column mean?

It is the Pearson correlation between gold’s daily returns and the other market’s daily returns over the last 30 or 90 trading days. +1 means they moved together every day, −1 means they always moved in opposite directions and 0 means no linear link. Correlations change over time, so read them as a description of the recent past. See gold correlations for the history.

Why does gold usually move against the dollar and yields?

Gold is priced in dollars and pays no interest. A stronger dollar makes it dearer for buyers using other currencies, and higher yields raise the cost of holding a metal that pays nothing. These are tendencies, not rules; there are long stretches when gold rises with the dollar.

Why are the gold and silver rows in the board futures prices?

The board compares every market on the same daily-bar basis, and the free daily history for gold and silver is COMEX futures. Futures trade a little above spot (the basis). The live tiles at the top show the spot prices.
