A prop firm challenge lets you trade the firm’s virtual account for a fee, and pays a share of profits if you pass and follow every rule. That sounds simple, but most failures come from the rules, not the market. These guides explain the rules in plain words, with gold examples. We never name or rank firms.
Start with what a funded account is and how one-step, two-step and instant funding differ. Then the rules that end most accounts: the daily drawdown, trailing versus static drawdown, consistency rules, news trading limits and what gets an account terminated. Gold moves fast, so a stop that is fine on a normal account can break a daily limit in one candle.
Next comes money: challenge phases, resets and payouts, why payouts get denied, how scaling plans work, and what to do if a firm closes or stops paying. Before you pay any fee, read how to check whether a prop firm is legitimate and run the readiness checklist.

Usually by breaking a rule, most often the daily or maximum drawdown, rather than by missing the profit target. Sizing every trade so one full stop cannot break the daily limit is the first fix.
A static drawdown limit stays at a fixed level below the starting balance. A trailing limit moves up as your account makes new highs, so open profit you give back can count against you.
