Reminders before market-moving releases
Tick a release to get a reminder 15 minutes before it, in your own time zone. Release times come from the official calendars on our economic calendar.
- Loading the next releases…
Alerts are saved only in this browser and checked while a page with this box is open (a background tab is fine). Nothing is sent to our server. Each alert fires once. Education only, not a trading signal.
How the gold price alerts work
Set a level and this page tells you when spot gold (XAUUSD) gets there. Choose rises to or above or falls to or below a price per troy ounce, in US dollars or in one of the currencies our world gold price pages use (the dollar price is converted at the day's exchange rate). Or choose a daily move: for example, alert me if gold is up or down more than 1.5% on the day. The daily change is measured from the previous trading day's spot close, exactly as in the price at the top of the box.
When an alert triggers you get a browser notification (if you allow notifications) and a message in the box, and the alert is marked as done. It never fires twice, so a price that hovers around your level will not flood you.
Where and when alerts are checked
Alerts live only in your browser's storage on this device. They are checked against the live spot price every few seconds while this page, the XAUUSD price page or one of the world gold price pages is open, and about once a minute when that tab is in the background. If you close every tab, nothing is checked until you come back, and an alert whose level was crossed while you were away triggers on your next visit if the price is still beyond it. Clearing your browser data deletes your alerts.
Reminders before big releases
US jobs reports, CPI and Federal Reserve decisions are the moments gold moves most. Tick a release above and you get a reminder 15 minutes before it, with the time shown in your own time zone. The list comes from the official release calendars we keep on the gold economic calendar; for what usually happens to gold around each release, see the event centre.
Using alerts sensibly
- An alert is a prompt to look at the chart, not a reason to trade. Decide your plan, stop and size before the level is reached; the position size calculator helps.
- Set levels from your own analysis, for example yesterday's high and low or the pivots on XAUUSD analysis today.
- Your broker's price can differ from the public spot price by its spread and its own feed, so allow a small margin.
- For a daily-move alert, compare with normal volatility: gold's typical daily range is on the gold volatility page.
Frequently asked questions
Are these gold price alerts free?
Yes. They run in your browser, need no account and send nothing to our server.
Do the alerts work when my browser is closed?
No. They are checked while one of our price pages with the alert box is open, including in a background tab. If the level was crossed while you were away and the price is still beyond it, the alert triggers when you come back.
Which price do the alerts use?
The live spot gold price (XAUUSD) from the same public feed shown at the top of the box, converted into your chosen currency at the day’s exchange rate. Your broker’s quote can differ slightly.
Why did I not get a notification?
Your browser may have blocked notifications for this site, or the tab may have been closed. Use the Turn on notifications button, check the site’s notification permission in your browser settings, and keep a tab open. The message inside the box always shows triggered alerts.
Can I get gold price alerts by email?
Not yet. Email alerts are planned; for now the free Gold Daily email gives you the day’s levels and events every morning.
Is a price alert a trading signal?
No. It only tells you the price reached a level you chose. Treat it as a reminder to check the chart and your plan.
