About this topic

Sooner or later every trader meets a message they do not understand, an order that did not fill, or a stop-loss that closed a trade although the chart never touched it. These guides explain what happened and what to do next, in plain words.

The setup guides come first: downloading MT5 safely (fake apps exist), adding gold to MT4 or MT5, finding the right symbol name, hedging versus netting accounts, one-click trading, installing indicators, and running MT5 on a Mac or a VPS. There are also guides for cTrader and TradingView charts.

Then the problems: login errors, the invalid stops and invalid volume messages, common error codes, why you cannot trade gold right now, pending orders that did not fill, requotes, slippage, spreads that widen on news and at rollover, and trades that close by themselves. Each one shows how to read the history tab so you can see exactly what the platform did.

If you are brand new, read the order types guide first. It explains buy limit, buy stop, sell limit and sell stop with gold examples, which solves many “why did it not fill” questions.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my stop-loss hit when the chart never reached it?

Charts usually show the bid price, but a buy trade closes at the bid and a sell trade closes at the ask. When the spread widens, the ask can reach a sell stop that the bid line never touched.

What does 'invalid stops' mean on MT5?

The stop-loss or take-profit is too close to the current price, on the wrong side of it, or inside the broker’s minimum stop distance. Move it further away and try again.

Why can I not trade gold right now?

The market may be closed (weekend or daily break), the symbol may be in close-only mode, or your account type may not include gold. The guide lists each case and how to check it.
