Country guides: gold trading guides

Gold is one market, but the rules for trading it change at every border. These guides cover the regulator, the legal products, leverage limits, tax and the best hours for your country.

About this topic

Country guides explain how to trade gold legally and sensibly from where you live. Spot gold and XAUUSD CFDs are not available or not permitted in every jurisdiction: US residents cannot trade retail gold CFDs and use COMEX futures or ETFs instead, India restricts overseas leveraged platforms and offers MCX gold contracts, and the UK and EU cap retail leverage at 1:20. Each guide names the regulator to check a broker against, lists the products that are legal in that country, explains the leverage and tax position in plain language, and converts the London and New York sessions into local time so you know when gold is actually moving where you are.

This topic is for traders who have found plenty of generic gold content but nothing that says how it applies in Nigeria, the Philippines, Kenya, Saudi Arabia or wherever they trade from. Regulatory details are taken from the regulators' own websites and public registers, and each guide shows its publication date so you can see how current it is; rules do change, and you should confirm anything that matters with the regulator or a local adviser. We do not recommend brokers. The guides show you how to verify one yourself. Use the live gold market hours tool for today's session times in your zone, and the gold trading by country hub to compare jurisdictions side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Is trading XAUUSD legal in my country?

In most countries, yes, through a broker licensed by the local regulator; the exceptions and restrictions matter, though. US residents cannot trade retail gold CFDs, and India restricts overseas leveraged platforms. Each country guide names the regulator and the legal products.

Do you recommend a broker for each country?

No. We do not recommend or review brokers and we have no affiliate relationships. Each guide explains how to check a broker against the official regulator register yourself, which is the check that actually protects you.

Why do leverage limits differ so much between countries?

Regulators set them. The UK, EU and Australia cap retail gold leverage at 1:20; other jurisdictions allow far more or set no cap. Higher leverage lowers the margin you post but does not change the dollar risk of the position, which is why the risk management guides matter wherever you trade.
