What the pivot point calculator does

Pivot points turn yesterday's high, low and close into today's reference levels: a central pivot (P), resistance levels above (R1, R2, R3) and support levels below (S1, S2, S3). This calculator works out classic, Woodie, Camarilla and Fibonacci pivots side by side. It opens with the latest finished daily gold candle from our own data, so you can see today's levels at once, and you can type over any number.

How to use it

  1. Check the date in the note. The prefill uses COMEX gold futures; spot XAUUSD at your broker can differ by a few dollars, and its daily candle may close at a different hour.
  2. For exact levels on your platform, enter its previous daily high, low and close.
  3. Choose a method. The comparison table shows all four so you can see where they agree.
  4. Use weekly or monthly high, low and close to get weekly or monthly pivots: the formulas are the same.

The formulas

  • Classic: P = (H + L + C) ÷ 3; R1 = 2P − L; S1 = 2P − H; R2 = P + (H − L); S2 = P − (H − L); R3 = H + 2(P − L); S3 = L − 2(H − P)
  • Woodie: P = (H + L + 2C) ÷ 4, then the same R and S formulas, so the close carries more weight
  • Camarilla: Rn = C + (H − L) × 1.1 ÷ k and Sn = C − (H − L) × 1.1 ÷ k, with k = 12, 6, 4 and 2 for levels 1 to 4
  • Fibonacci: classic P, then R/S = P ± (H − L) × 0.382, 0.618 and 1.000

Worked gold examples

Example 1: the latest day in our data. For Thu 29 Oct 2026, gold futures made a high of 4,081.70, a low of 4,016.30 and closed at 4,031.40. Classic pivot = (4,081.70 + 4,016.30 + 4,031.40) ÷ 3 = 4,043.13, R1 = 4,069.97, S1 = 4,004.57. Camarilla R3 and S3, which many intraday traders watch, are 4,049.39 and 4,013.41. These figures were calculated when this page was last built; the calculator above shows the same day.

Example 2: a fixed day. High 4,100, low 4,020, close 4,080 (an $80 range). Classic P = 4,066.67, R1 = 4,113.33, S1 = 4,033.33, R2 = 4,146.67, S2 = 3,986.67. Woodie P = (4,100 + 4,020 + 2 × 4,080) ÷ 4 = 4,070.00. Camarilla R3 = 4,080 + 80 × 1.1 ÷ 4 = 4,102.00. Fibonacci R1 = 4,066.67 + 80 × 0.382 = 4,097.23.

Common mistakes

  • Using a different day's candle. Gold trades almost 24 hours. Brokers on New York close (17:00 New York time) and charts on midnight UTC give different daily candles and different pivots.
  • Trading every level. Pivots mark where to pay attention. They are not entries without your own confirmation.
  • Ignoring the day's range. On a news day gold can travel through S3 to R3. Check the average daily range and the economic calendar first.
  • Stops exactly on a pivot. Price often probes the level. Put the stop where your idea is wrong, then size the trade with the position size calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How are pivot points calculated for gold?

The classic pivot is (high + low + close) ÷ 3 of the previous day. R1 = 2 × pivot − low and S1 = 2 × pivot − high; R2 and S2 add and subtract the day’s range. The same formulas work on weekly or monthly candles.

Which pivot point method is best for XAUUSD?

None is best in every market. Classic pivots are the most widely watched. Camarilla levels sit closer to the close and suit intraday range ideas; Woodie weights the close more; Fibonacci spaces levels by 38.2% and 61.8% of the range. Test them on your own charts.

Why are my broker's pivot levels different from this page?

Daily candles depend on the time your broker closes the day and on its price feed. Our prefill uses COMEX gold futures. Enter your broker’s own high, low and close and the levels will match its chart.

What time do daily pivot points reset?

When a new daily candle starts on your chart. Most forex and CFD platforms start the day at 17:00 New York time, while some charts use midnight UTC. Use the same daily candle every time.

What are Camarilla pivot points?

Camarilla levels are based on the previous close plus or minus the previous range multiplied by 1.1 and divided by 12, 6, 4 and 2. R3 and S3 are often watched for reversals and R4 and S4 for breakouts.

Can I use pivot points for weekly levels?

Yes. Enter last week’s high, low and close (or last month’s) and the calculator returns weekly (or monthly) pivots with the same formulas.
