Gold risk management course: sizing, drawdown and survival
The course every gold trader should take, whatever the strategy: position size from the stop, margin and leverage, expectancy, drawdown maths, prop challenge rules, psychology, and why martingale, grid and straddle systems blow accounts.
This free gold risk management course collects the academy's risk lessons, guides and calculators into one path for XAUUSD traders. You learn to size every position from your stop in under a minute, set stops and understand margin and stop-outs, judge a strategy by expectancy rather than win rate, plan for drawdowns and losing streaks, and translate prop challenge rules into lot sizes. It finishes with the psychology and routines that keep you inside your limits, and the real-data tests that show how martingale, grid and news-straddle systems fail.

Practise in the community
Reading teaches the ideas; feedback is what makes them stick. Inside the XAUUSD Global community, pods of 5 to 8 traders post a plan at the stand-up before the London session (06:30 UTC) and before New York (12:30 UTC), then review each other's trades in one format: screenshot, thesis, invalidation and outcome. Bring each module's practice task to your pod and ask traders on your level to check your markings and your sizing. How a trading pod works explains the routine.
The courses are free and stay free. The community is optional: the first month is free, then $19.99 a month, cancel any time.
Finish with the quizzes and certificate
Each of the 8 academy lessons in this course ends with a five-question quiz. Score 4 of 5 and the lesson ticks itself here and on the academy's learning path. Passed quizzes also count toward the free XAUUSD Foundations certificate, which unlocks when all 51 academy lessons are passed. It is a self-study certificate, not a regulated qualification, and it can't show trading results; your journal does that.

Frequently asked questions
How much should I risk per trade on gold?
Many traders cap risk at 0.5% to 1% of the account per trade, sized from the stop distance. That keeps a long losing streak survivable. The right figure for you depends on your strategy’s drawdowns, which is why the course pairs sizing with expectancy and drawdown maths.
What is the 1% rule in gold trading?
It means losing no more than 1% of your account if the stop is hit. On gold, lot size = (balance × 1%) ÷ (stop distance in dollars × contract size). With a $5,000 balance, a $10 stop and 100 oz per lot, that is $50 ÷ $1,000 = 0.05 lot. Always check your broker’s contract size.
Does leverage increase my risk?
Leverage changes how much margin a position uses, not how much you lose per dollar move. The risk comes from lot size and stop distance. High leverage makes it easy to open positions far too large, which is how it leads to margin calls and stop-outs.
Why does the course include martingale and grid tests?
Because they are sold as low-risk and look that way for months. Our tests on real gold data show how they fail: a long losing streak forces huge positions or many open trades at once, and the account takes one large loss that wipes out the small wins.
Is this course useful for prop firm challenges?
Yes. Module 5 turns daily and maximum loss rules into a position size and a plan, and the prop challenge calculator shows how many losses in a row your sizing survives. We never name, rank or recommend prop firms.
Educational content only, not financial advice. Trading gold with leverage carries a high risk of loss.
