A private gold trade journal that does the maths

Log your XAUUSD trades here and the journal turns them into the numbers that matter: win rate, average R, expectancy, profit factor, maximum drawdown and an equity curve, plus your results by session, weekday, hour, setup and mistake. Everything runs in your browser. Your trades are stored on your own device and are never sent to us or anyone else.

How to use it

  1. Add trades with the form: open time, side, entry, exit and lots. Add the stop loss to get results in R (multiples of the amount you risked). If you type the net result in dollars, it is used as-is (after your real costs); otherwise it is calculated from the prices, lots and ounces per lot.
  2. Or import a CSV. Export your trade history from your platform as CSV and import it. The journal looks for columns such as open time, type or side, open price, close price, volume or lots, S/L and profit, whatever their order. CSV files from our practice simulator import directly. Times without a time zone are read as your own local time (platform server times can differ by a few hours, which shifts the session tables).
  3. Tag honestly. A setup tag ("London breakout", "pullback to 20 EMA") and mistake tags (moved stop, revenge trade, chased) are what turn a list of trades into lessons.
  4. Review weekly. The review box asks the questions a trading coach would, using your own numbers.

What each statistic means

  • Win rate: share of trades with a positive result. Meaningless on its own: a 40% win rate can be very profitable with 2R winners.
  • Average R and expectancy: the average result per trade in R and in dollars. Positive expectancy over a large sample is the goal. Check yours with the expectancy calculator.
  • Profit factor: gross profit divided by gross loss. Above 1 means the winners paid for the losers.
  • Max drawdown: the largest fall of your cumulative result from a peak. See how hard it is to recover with the drawdown recovery calculator.
  • Sessions use the open time in UTC: Asia 00:00–07:00, London 07:00–12:00, London–New York overlap 12:00–16:00, New York afternoon 16:00–21:00, late 21:00–24:00. Compare with when gold moves the most.

Frequently asked questions

Is my trading data uploaded anywhere?

No. The journal stores your trades in your browser’s local storage on this device only. Nothing is sent to our server. Download a backup file if you want a copy or want to move to another device.

Which CSV files can I import?

Most platform trade-history exports. The journal detects columns by name (for example open time, type, open price, close price, volume, S/L, profit). If a file is not recognised, save it with those column names, or add the trades by hand.

What is R in a trade journal?

R is the amount you risked on a trade: the distance from entry to stop times your position size. A trade that made twice what it risked is +2R. Results in R let you compare trades of different sizes.

How is maximum drawdown calculated?

From the running total of your trade results in date order: the biggest drop from any peak to a later low, in dollars (and in R when stops are recorded).

Does it include spreads, commissions and swaps?

Only if you enter or import the net result. If the result field is empty, it is calculated from entry, exit and size, which leaves costs out.

Will this journal tell me what to trade?

No. It only measures your own trades. It gives no signals or recommendations.

Educational tool only. Not financial advice and not a signal. Check your own broker's contract specification, margin rules and costs. Past data does not predict future prices. See our risk disclaimer.
