The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes the October producer price index at 8:30 am Eastern Time on Friday 13 November 2026. New York has been on standard time (UTC−5) since 1 November, so that is 13:30 GMT. In India it is 19:00 IST, in Dubai 17:30, in Johannesburg 15:30 and in Singapore 21:30.
Two things make this release unusual: the last PPI was the hottest in years, and this one lands on a Friday, three days after CPI on 10 November and hours before gold’s weekly close. The PPI event page has a live countdown in your own time zone and a calendar file. This page is the clock, the background and a plan.

Why it is one hour later than last month
The September PPI came out on 15 October at 12:30 GMT and 18:00 IST. The US left daylight saving time on 1 November, so 8:30 am New York now lands one hour later in India, the Gulf, Africa and most of Asia, which do not change their clocks. Our US clock change guide has all the new session times.
What PPI is, in plain words
PPI (producer price index) measures the prices that US businesses receive for what they sell: goods leaving the factory, fuel at the refinery, services such as transport and retail margins. Think of it as inflation at the start of the pipe. CPI, by contrast, measures what households pay at the end of the pipe. The PPI glossary entry has the longer definition.
Picture a bakery: dearer flour and electricity show up in PPI first. If the bakery later raises the price of bread, that shows up in CPI.
The BLS calls its main headline number “final demand”, which covers goods, services and construction sold to final buyers. Traders usually look at:
- Final demand, month on month (seasonally adjusted): the first number on the screen.
- Final demand, 12 months: the yearly change.
- Core PPI: one version leaves out food and energy; a narrower one also leaves out trade services, the margins shops and wholesalers earn, which swing a lot.
- Goods versus services: where the pressure comes from.
What the last report showed
The September 2026 report, published on Thursday 15 October, was a big one. According to the BLS release:
| September 2026 PPI | Change |
|---|---|
| Final demand, month | +1.3%, the largest rise since March 2022 |
| Final demand, 12 months | +6.3%, the largest since December 2022 |
| Less foods, energy and trade services, month | +0.5% (after +0.3% in August) |
| Less foods, energy and trade services, 12 months | +5.0% |
| Final demand goods, month | +2.6%, the largest since the series began in December 2009 |
| Final demand energy, month | +10.8% |
| Final demand services, month | +0.8% |
The BLS says more than 80% of the rise in goods prices came from energy, so fuel is doing most of the work. But the core measure also rose 0.5% in a month, which is not small. On 13 November the question is simple: did energy-driven price pressure keep spreading through the pipe in October, or did it cool?

Why PPI can move gold
Gold pays no interest. Hot inflation makes markets expect the Federal Reserve to keep rates high or raise them, which tends to lift Treasury yields and the dollar, and both usually weigh on gold. A cooler number tends to work the other way. The chain is explained step by step in gold and Fed rate hikes.
PPI usually moves gold less than CPI, for three reasons:
- It comes after CPI. Traders will already have seen October CPI on 10 November; PPI confirms or muddies that story.
- It is one step removed from households. Producers do not always pass costs on.
- Some parts matter more than the headline. A few PPI items, such as portfolio management fees and airfares, feed into the PCE inflation figure that the Fed prefers. PCE itself is due on 25 November, before the Fed decides on 9 December.
The surprise matters more than the number. A 0.5% rise can lift gold if markets expected 0.9%, and push it down if they expected 0.2%. A hot PPI that agrees with a hot CPI tends to matter more than one that disagrees with it.
What gold did in the last 12 PPI hours
We computed these numbers from our own COMEX gold futures (GC) one-hour bars, the same data and method as the PPI event page. Release hour is the one-hour bar that contains 8:30 am New York (so the 8:00 to 9:00 am bar, including 30 minutes before the number). Move is that bar’s close minus the previous hour’s close. Range is the bar’s high minus its low. Data as of 4 November 2026.
| PPI release (New York date) | Other US data at 8:30 am | Release-hour move | Release-hour high–low |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thu 15 Oct 2026 | Retail sales, jobless claims | +$7.2 (+0.17%) | $29.2 |
| Thu 10 Sep 2026 | Jobless claims | −$34.9 (−0.79%) | $54.5 |
| Thu 13 Aug 2026 | Jobless claims | +$14.4 (+0.32%) | $22.9 |
| Wed 15 Jul 2026 | — | +$30.1 (+0.74%) | $36.4 |
| Thu 11 Jun 2026 | — | +$1.8 (+0.04%) | $29.8 |
| Wed 13 May 2026 | — | −$14.5 (−0.31%) | $27.4 |
| Tue 14 Apr 2026 | — | −$3.8 (−0.08%) | $16.0 |
| Wed 18 Mar 2026 | — | −$48.9 (−0.99%) | $62.9 |
| Fri 27 Feb 2026 | — | +$36.5 (+0.70%) | $55.8 |
| Fri 30 Jan 2026 | — | −$46.4 (−0.91%) | $109.5 |
| Wed 14 Jan 2026 | Retail sales | −$3.1 (−0.07%) | $18.5 |
| Tue 25 Nov 2025 | Retail sales | +$54.7 (+1.33%) | $59.4 |
What the table says, in plain words (our calculations from the rows above):
- The median release-hour range was about $33. Half the hours moved less than that from high to low, half more. For comparison, the median for the last 12 CPI hours was about $41, as shown in our CPI time today page.
- The median size of the move, ignoring direction, was about $22.
- The hour closed higher 6 times and lower 6 times. There is no direction pattern to lean on.
- The tail is wide. Five of the 12 hours had ranges above $54, and 30 January 2026 reached $109.5. “Smaller than CPI on average” does not mean “small”.
- Rows with other data are mixed reactions: the hour’s move belongs to every release at that minute.
Adding the three earlier releases in our data (July to September 2025) gives a 15-release median range of about $29. These are COMEX futures prices, which trade a few dollars above spot XAUUSD but move almost the same way. Past ranges do not predict the next one.
Twelve releases is a small sample. Gold traded between about $4,000 and $5,250 across these 12 releases, so dollar ranges are not directly comparable from start to end. Use these figures to understand how big a PPI hour can be, not to guess which way the next one will go.
Worked example: a 1:2 trade on PPI day
Here is a made-up example with real contract maths. On a standard XAUUSD contract, 1 lot is 100 ounces, so a $1 move in gold is $100 per lot, and 0.01 lot is $1 per $1 move. Your platform’s contract size may differ, so check the symbol’s specification.
Account: $1,000. Rule: risk no more than 1% ($10) per trade. Plan: a 1:2 trade (risk $1 to try to make $2) with a $5 stop and a $10 target.
- Size: $10 risk ÷ $5 stop = 0.02 lot. If the target is hit, the gain is $20.
- Now add PPI. The median release hour had a $33 range. A $5 stop is only about one-sixth of that, so normal noise in the hour can hit it before the trade has a chance.
- Slippage. Suppose the number lands, price jumps, and your stop fills $6 worse than its level. The loss is now $11 × 2 = $22, or 2.2% of the account, more than double the plan.
- Too big a size. With 0.10 lot instead, a $54.5 hour like 10 September 2026 is a $545 swing, more than half the account.
- The safer choices: wait for the release hour to close and plan from the new structure, or widen the stop and cut size to match (a $20 stop at 0.01 lot risks $20 and needs a $40 move for 1:2).

A plan for Friday 13 November
- Find your time in the table and set an alarm 30 minutes before.
- Read Tuesday’s CPI first. Write down whether October CPI came in hotter or cooler than expected. PPI will be read through that lens.
- Note the forecast and last month’s figures: final demand +1.3% month and +6.3% year; core (less foods, energy and trade) +0.5% and +5.0%.
- Decide before 8:30 am New York whether you will trade. Staying flat is a valid plan.
- Check open trades and stops. Spreads widen around news. See why the gold spread widens on news.
- Skip the first minute. The first jump is often taken back while the market reads the details.
- Think about the weekend. COMEX gold closes at 5 pm New York on Friday and reopens on Sunday evening. Anything you hold after the PPI move is exposed to weekend news and a possible gap on Monday.
- Mark your levels from the weekly gold cheat sheet and the markets page.
Do not place buy and sell orders on both sides of the price just before PPI (a “news straddle”). In a fast market both can fill, or one can fill far from its price. Our test of news straddles shows why this hurts more often than it pays.
Common mistakes on PPI day, and the better way
| Mistake | Better way |
|---|---|
| Using summer time (18:00 IST, 12:30 GMT) | Use 13:30 GMT and 19:00 IST until March |
| Thinking PPI is “small” because CPI already came out | Expect a typical range around $30, with tails above $100 |
| Judging PPI on its own | Compare it with Tuesday’s CPI: does it confirm or contradict? |
| Holding a news trade into Friday’s close by accident | Decide your weekend plan before the release |
What comes next
After PPI comes PCE on 25 November, then the Fed decision on 9 December (see our December hike odds explainer). The gold events hub lists every release, and the CPI day guide for XAUUSD and CPI event page give a routine you can reuse on PPI day.
What to do now
- Save the time: Fri 13 Nov 2026, 8:30 am New York = 13:30 GMT = 19:00 IST = 17:30 Dubai.
- Add the release to your calendar from the PPI event page.
- Note last month’s figures: +1.3% month, +6.3% year on final demand.
- Decide now: trade after the first hour, or stay flat.
- Make a weekend plan for any open trade.
- Log what happened in your trade journal.

Frequently asked questions
What time is PPI today?
The US PPI report for October 2026 is released on Friday 13 November 2026 at 8:30 am Eastern Standard Time, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That is 13:30 GMT, 14:30 in Berlin and Lagos, 17:30 in Dubai, 19:00 in India (IST) and 21:30 in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
What time is US PPI in India?
US PPI is at 19:00 IST (7:00 pm) on Friday 13 November 2026. The September report on 15 October came at 18:00 IST. It is one hour later now because the US moved back to standard time on 1 November, and India does not change its clocks.
What was the last US PPI reading?
The September 2026 PPI, published on 15 October, showed final demand prices up 1.3% in the month and 6.3% over 12 months, the largest monthly rise since March 2022. Prices excluding foods, energy and trade services rose 0.5% in the month and 5.0% over 12 months, according to the BLS.
Does PPI move gold as much as CPI?
Usually less. In our COMEX futures data for the last 12 PPI releases, the median high-to-low range in the release hour was about $33, against about $41 for the last 12 CPI hours. But single PPI hours have reached $55 to $110, so it is not a quiet event.
Why is PPI on a Friday a special risk?
The COMEX gold session closes at 5 pm New York on Friday and does not reopen until Sunday evening. Anything you still hold after a PPI move is carried over the weekend, when news can build up and prices can open with a gap on Monday morning in Asia.
When is the next PPI after 13 November 2026?
The BLS schedules the November 2026 PPI for Tuesday 15 December 2026 at 8:30 am New York time, which is 13:30 GMT and 19:00 IST.
