One-Click Trading in MT5 and MT4: How to Turn It On, and Why Gold Needs Care

One-click trading lets MetaTrader send an order the moment you click Buy or Sell, with no confirmation window. That speed is useful for active gold traders, and it is also how a typo in the volume box becomes a ten-times-larger position before you notice. Here is how to turn it on in MT5 and MT4, how the panel works, and the settings that keep it safe.

The short answer

In MT5, go to Tools → Options → Trade, tick “One click trading” and accept the terms. Then right-click a chart → “One Click Trading” to show the Buy/Sell panel with its volume box. In MT4 the option sits in the same place (Tools → Options → Trade), and the panel is switched on from the chart’s right-click menu.

On gold, check the volume box before every click. On a 100 oz contract, 1.00 lot is $100 per $1 move. Typing 1.00 instead of 0.10 makes the trade ten times larger, with no confirmation window to catch it.

What one-click trading does

Normally, MetaTrader opens a New Order window: you check the symbol, volume, stop and target, then confirm. With one-click trading on, clicking Buy or Sell on the chart panel (or in Market Depth) sends a market order immediately, at the volume in the panel’s box. MetaQuotes’ help adds that the same volume is used for pending orders placed from the chart, and that one-click trading works in every execution mode except Request execution.

That saves a second or two on entries and exits. Whether that matters depends on your style: for a gold scalper it can; for a swing trader it rarely does.

How to turn it on in MT5

  1. Open Tools → Options, and choose the Trade tab.
  2. Tick One click trading.
  3. A terms window appears the first time. Tick I Accept these Terms and Conditions and click OK. If you click Cancel, one-click trading stays off.
  4. On a gold chart, right-click → One Click Trading to show the panel.
  5. Use the One Click Trading icon to the left of the OHLC values to hide or show the panel later.
  6. While you are in the Trade tab, set Volume (the default volume for new orders) to the size you normally trade.

How to turn it on in MT4

  1. Tools → Options → Trade tab: tick One Click Trading and accept the terms.
  2. Right-click a chart → One Click Trading to show the panel in the top-left corner.
  3. Type the volume in the panel’s box before clicking BUY or SELL.

Labels vary slightly between MT4 builds and providers. If you don’t see the option, check that your account allows trading and that you are logged in with the master, not the investor, password.

On the MT5 mobile app

MT5 for Android and iPhone has a One Click Trading setting. MetaQuotes’ help says it removes the confirmation step after you accept its terms. On a phone, where a thumb can hit the wrong button, many traders leave it off. If you use it, check the volume every time.

What a misclick costs on gold

You meant to buy 0.10 lot at $4,000.00 with a $10 stop: risk $100. The panel still showed 1.00 from an earlier trade.

Volume actually sent Value of $1 Loss if the $10 stop is hit
0.10 lot (intended) $10 $100
1.00 lot (the misclick) $100 $1,000
10.00 lots (an extra zero) $1,000 $10,000

And with one-click trading, the stop isn’t attached unless you add it. If gold drops $10 before you notice, the 1.00 lot trade has lost $1,000 with no stop in place.

On a $5,000 account the second row is a fifth of the account. On a funded account it can breach the daily loss limit in one move; see prop firm daily drawdown on gold.

Guard rails if you use it

  1. Set the default volume (Tools → Options → Trade → Volume) to your smallest normal size.
  2. Check the panel’s volume box before each click. Make it a spoken habit: “point one”.
  3. Add the stop straight away. MT5 has default Stop levels under Tools → Options → Trade; test on a demo account whether your build applies them to one-click orders, and if not, drag a stop onto every new position at once. Size the distance from gold’s volatility; the ATR stop-loss calculator helps.
  4. Hide the panel on charts you only watch, so stray clicks can’t trade.
  5. Don’t use it during news if your provider widens spreads sharply; the fill comes at market, wherever that is. See gold slippage explained.
  6. Know your lot maths. The gold pip calculator and how much is 1 lot of gold show what each size is worth.

Check every trade straight after the click

Make a ten-second check part of the routine, every time:

  1. Open the Toolbox (Ctrl+T) and look at the Trade tab.
  2. Confirm the symbol, direction and volume of the new position.
  3. Confirm a stop-loss is attached, and add one if it isn’t.
  4. If the volume is wrong, close the position or the excess part straight away, before deciding anything else. A small loss on a mistaken trade is cheaper than hoping it works out.

Practise this on a demo account until it is automatic.

How to turn it off

MT5: Tools → Options → Trade and untick One click trading. The New Order confirmation window comes back. MT4: the same tab, untick One Click Trading. If you only want to hide the panel, use the chart right-click menu instead.

When it’s worth using, and when it isn’t

Situation One-click? Why
Fast scalping with fixed size and default stops Can help Saves time on entries and exits
Swing trading on H4 or Daily Rarely needed A few seconds don’t change the result
Learning the platform Keep off The confirmation step teaches you to check volume and stops
Trading on a phone Usually off Misclicks are easier on a small screen
Funded or evaluation accounts Use with care One oversized trade can breach a limit

Frequently asked questions

How do I enable one-click trading in MT5?

Go to Tools, Options, Trade and tick One click trading, then accept the terms by ticking I Accept these Terms and Conditions and clicking OK. To show the panel on a chart, right-click the chart and choose One Click Trading. You can hide and show it later with the One Click Trading icon to the left of the OHLC values.

How do I enable one-click trading in MT4?

In MT4, the option is also under Tools, Options, Trade (One Click Trading), with terms to accept the first time. The chart panel is switched on from the chart’s right-click menu, under One Click Trading. Labels can vary slightly between builds.

What volume does the one-click panel use?

The volume typed in the panel’s volume box. MetaQuotes’ help notes the same volume is used for pending orders placed from the chart. Check it before every click, because the panel keeps the last value.

Can I use one-click trading on the MT5 mobile app?

MT5 mobile has a One Click Trading setting too, which removes the confirmation step after you accept its terms. The same caution applies: check the volume first, and keep it off if you trade on a small screen where misclicks are easy.

Does one-click trading work with every execution type?

According to MetaQuotes, one-click trading works in all execution modes except Request execution. In that mode a standard trade dialog appears instead.
