Liquidity Sweep on Gold: Stops Raided, Then -$50

The liquidity sweep explained on a real gold example from 19-21 October 2026: highs that stalled at the same level, a spike that ran the buy stops above them, the close back below, then entry, stop above the wick and a target at the lows.

Key points

  • Obvious high (1H, UTC): from Mon 19 Oct 15:00 to Tue 20 Oct 13:00 the highs topped out at $4,166.0-4,169.2, touched five times.

  • Sweep: the Tue 20 Oct 14:00 candle spiked to $4,174.9, $5.70 above those highs, then closed back below at $4,162.4.

  • Entry $4,162 at the close, stop $4,176 above the wick ($14 risk), target $4,131 just above the $4,130.1 lows (about 2.2R). No later candle got above $4,163.5; the Wed 21 Oct 00:00 candle reached $4,130.3 and the 01:00 candle $4,124.0.

  • A past example for education, not a signal. Not every spike above a high reverses, which is why the stop sits above the wick.
