Gold News, 2 November 2026: 7 stories moving XAUUSD

Gold opened November with a modest rebound: spot traded near $3,906 on Monday, about 0.8% above Friday’s one-year-low close, as Brent fell towards $110 on hopes that Qatar-brokered talks could reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The bounce is small next to October’s fall, and the week is packed: ISM manufacturing tonight, the US midterms on Tuesday and the jobs report on Friday, with a December Fed hike still priced at about 75%.

Gold bounces to about $3,906 off its one-year low as oil drops on Iran–Qatar talks

Technicals

Spot gold rebounds about 0.8% to near $3,906 after Friday's one-year low

Spot gold traded at $3,906.39 on Monday morning, up $30.55 (0.79%) from Friday’s close of $3,875.84, according to Trading Economics data cited by FinanceFeeds. Reuters had gold at $3,900.05, up 0.6%, in early Asian trade. Friday’s 3.5% fall was blamed on forced selling after a slide in tech shares, with the S&P 500 down 1.8% and the Nasdaq down 2.9%.

Why it matters for gold:

A rebound after a sharp one-day drop is common and says little on its own about trend. FX Leaders put the first resistance at $3,920, the 23.6% retracement, and support at $3,869 and $3,828. Our daily XAUUSD analysis recalculates the session’s pivots, and the false breaks study shows how often gold has reclaimed a broken round number within five sessions.

Geopolitics

Oil falls as Iran says a Qatar-brokered plan could reopen Hormuz within two days

Brent was down $1.59 at $111.84 a barrel at 00:11 GMT, Reuters reported, and down about 2.7% near $110 by midday in India. Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said Qatari mediators persuaded Tehran to shorten a seven-day plan to two days: US measures on day one and Hormuz reopening on day two. Iran’s conditions include lifting new US sanctions and releasing frozen funds; Washington has not answered publicly, and President Trump said he was in no great hurry.

Why it matters for gold:

Oil has been a key route from the Iran war to US inflation, and so to December hike bets. Cheaper crude eases that pressure, which is one reason gold firmed today. KCM Trade’s Tim Waterer warned Brent could head back towards $120 if rhetoric escalates after the midterms. Our gold and oil guide explains how the two usually interact.

Dollar

Dollar index steady near 101.9 while the yuan trades at its strongest since 2022

The dollar index was little changed at 101.88 in Monday’s Asian trading, Investing.com reported, as investors waited for the midterms and a busy data week. The onshore yuan was at 6.6540 per dollar after reaching 6.659 on Friday, its strongest since June 2022, and is up about 5% this year. USD/JPY rose 0.2% to 157.88 and the Reserve Bank of Australia is widely expected to hike to 4.85% on Tuesday.

Why it matters for gold:

Gold is priced in dollars, so a flat DXY removed one source of pressure today. A stronger yuan lowers the local cost of gold for Chinese buyers, the world’s largest consumer market. Our gold vs the dollar index guide shows how the relationship has worked since 2000, and the gold price in other currencies page explains why the same move looks different in yuan or yen.

Data

ISM manufacturing at 15:00 GMT: September's prices index jumped to 77.9

The October ISM manufacturing survey is due today at 15:00 GMT (20:30 IST). In September the headline PMI was 54.5 against a 54.8 estimate, but the prices index rose 6.8 points to 77.9 from 71.1, far above the 72.3 forecast; new orders rose to 55.3 and employment to 52.7. ISM services follows on Wednesday.

Why it matters for gold:

The prices index is the part gold traders watch most this month: another high reading would back the case for a December hike, while a fall towards the low 70s would ease it. Expect the reaction in the US session, not before. Our economic calendar lists every release this week in your own time zone.

Midterms tomorrow: the World Gold Council says policy after the vote matters more than the result

US voters go to the polls on Tuesday 3 November, with a Marist poll showing Democrats ahead 52% to 44% among likely voters, GoodReturns reported. The World Gold Council’s Juan Carlos Artigas said a divided Congress could limit deficit-expanding laws, which may weigh on gold, while limits on war funding could encourage de-escalation with Iran and ease energy prices. He expects non-US investors to keep supporting demand.

Why it matters for gold:

Results arrive during the thin Asian session on Wednesday, so price can jump on small orders. History is mixed: gold fell while stocks rose after the 2016 and 2024 Trump wins. Our election-night guide has the poll-closing times in six zones and the midterms and gold article covers past cycles.

India: MCX gold near ₹1,39,140 and 24-carat at ₹1,39,370 four days before Dhanteras

MCX gold futures rose about 0.5% to roughly ₹1,39,140 per 10 grams by 10:41 IST, and MCX silver gained almost 2% to about ₹1,82,600 per kg, GoodReturns reported. Retail 24-carat gold was ₹1,39,370 per 10 grams (up ₹490) and 22-carat ₹1,27,750 at 11:29 IST, with the rupee steady near 95 per dollar. Enrich Money’s Ponmudi R said gold needs to recover above ₹1,40,000 to ease selling pressure.

Why it matters for gold:

Indian prices follow spot gold and the rupee together, so a flat rupee means today’s rise came almost entirely from the dollar price. Dhanteras falls on Friday 6 November, the same day as the US jobs report. Our gold rate in India page converts spot to rupees per 10 grams, and MCX gold vs XAUUSD explains how the two contracts differ.

Forecasts

OCBC keeps a $4,250 year-end view as analysts split between $3,750 and $5,000

OCBC said it remains positive on gold over the medium term, forecasting $4,250 an ounce by the end of 2026 and $4,710 by the end of 2027, GoodReturns reported. Others are further apart: Bannockburn’s Marc Chandler sees room to $3,750-3,850 and StoneX’s Daniel Pavilonis mentioned a possible move towards $3,000, while UBS’s Giovanni Staunovo still expects $5,000 or more next year, according to FX Leaders.

Why it matters for gold:

A gap of more than $1,000 between respected forecasters is a reminder that nobody knows the path, so position size and stops matter more than any target. Bank forecasts are opinions, not signals. Our 2027 gold forecast round-up collects the main bank views in one table, and the position size calculator helps keep risk fixed when volatility is this high.
