XAUUSD Market Open Time in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia (Local Clock)

Gold's trading day is set in New York, so its times in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jakarta move twice a year even though your clocks never change. Here is the weekly open, the London open, US data time, the busiest hours and the daily break in MYT, SGT and WIB, for both halves of the year.

If you just want to know whether gold is open right now, the live gold market hours tool shows the current session and a countdown in your own time zone. This guide is the reference version for Malaysia (MYT), Singapore (SGT) and Indonesia (WIB), the times people in the region search for most.

The one idea that makes everything else simple: gold’s trading week is anchored to New York. Spot XAUUSD trades from Sunday 6:00 pm to Friday 5:00 pm New York time, with a one-hour break each day at 5:00–6:00 pm. Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia do not use daylight saving time, but the US and UK do, so the local times shift twice a year.

Tokyo does not use daylight saving, so the Tokyo open stays at 08:00 in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore all year.

The in-between weeks

Europe and the US change their clocks on different dates. For a short spell each spring and autumn, London has changed and New York has not, or the other way round. This year that gap runs from October 25 to November 1, 2026. During that week the London open moves to 16:00 in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore (15:00 in Jakarta), but US data stays at 20:30 (19:30 WIB) and the Fed decision on October 28 lands at 02:00 on Thursday October 29 in KL and Singapore. Our gold week ahead lists every event that week.

Indonesia has three time zones

Indonesia spans three zones, so check which one you are in:

  • WIB (UTC+7): Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Medan and the rest of Java and Sumatra. Use the Jakarta column above.
  • WITA (UTC+8): Bali, Makassar and Balikpapan. Your times match Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
  • WIT (UTC+9): Jayapura and the rest of Papua. Add one hour to the Kuala Lumpur column.

The gold market hours tool picks this up automatically from your device’s time zone.

Which hours move the most

Our gold volatility tool keeps an hour-by-hour heatmap of COMEX gold futures. On data to October 23, 2026, covering 59 trading days that were all in US summer time, the average hourly range looked like this in Malaysian and Singapore time:

Hour (MYT/SGT) Average hourly range What usually happens
08:00–09:00 $18.9 Asian morning, Tokyo opens
09:00–10:00 $23.1 Busiest Asian hour as Chinese and Hong Kong markets open
12:00–13:00 $10.6 Lunchtime lull
15:00–16:00 $15.5 London opens
20:00–21:00 $30.1 US data at 20:30
21:00–22:00 $28.9 London–New York overlap
22:00–23:00 $26.6 Overlap continues
04:00–05:00 $10.6 Late US session, quiet

Two practical points follow. First, the region’s evening is gold’s busiest time: the 20:00 and 21:00 hours averaged close to three times the range of the Asian lunchtime hour. Second, the Asian morning is not dead. The 09:00 hour was the busiest of the Asian session, which matters if you trade before work. In winter, the US-driven rows move one hour later on your clock.

Our article on how many pips gold moves in a day turns these ranges into pips and looks at the full-day figures.

Choosing a window that fits your day

Before work (06:00–09:00). The weekly open on Monday and the Asian morning are thin. Spreads can be wide for the first minutes of the week, and weekend news can gap the price. Our guide on whether gold trades at weekends explains that gap. The Asian session playbook covers the quieter range-building hours.

Afternoon (15:00–17:00). The London open often brings the first real move of the day, sometimes by breaking one side of the Asian range. See the London session guide.

Evening (20:00–01:00). The most active window and the one most part-time traders in the region use. It includes US data at 8:30 am New York time and the London–New York overlap. Read the New York session guide before trading it, and our guide to trading gold with a full-time job if you can only trade evenings.

Late night (02:00–03:00). Fed decisions land here eight times a year. Many traders in the region choose to be flat before them rather than stay up.

Your broker’s clock is not your clock

MetaTrader charts show server time, not Malaysian, Singaporean or Indonesian time. Many brokers set their servers to GMT+2 in the northern winter and GMT+3 in summer, so the daily candle closes at 5:00 pm New York time. That means a server-time 00:00 is 06:00 or 07:00 in Kuala Lumpur depending on the season. Work out the difference once, write it down and recheck it after each US clock change.

Local gold prices

The XAUUSD price is quoted in US dollars per troy ounce. At the exchange rates in our data on October 23, 2026, a gold price of $4,020.4 was worth about RM16,415 per ounce in Malaysia, S$5,135 in Singapore and Rp72.7 million in Indonesia, and every $10 move in gold was about RM40.8, S$12.8 or Rp180,800 per ounce.

Frequently asked questions

What time does the gold market open in Malaysia?

Spot gold opens for the week at 6:00 pm Sunday New York time. In Malaysia that is 7:00 am on Monday from early November to mid-March, and 6:00 am on Monday from mid-March to early November, because only the US changes its clocks. Exact times vary slightly by broker.

What time does XAUUSD open in Singapore?

The same as Malaysia, because Singapore Time and Malaysia Time are both UTC+8: Monday 07:00 SGT in the northern winter and Monday 06:00 SGT during US daylight saving time. The market then trades almost 24 hours a day until Saturday morning Singapore time.

What time does gold open in Jakarta?

Jakarta uses WIB (UTC+7), one hour behind Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The weekly open is Monday 06:00 WIB in winter and Monday 05:00 WIB during US summer time. If you are in Bali or Makassar (WITA, UTC+8), use the Malaysia and Singapore times instead.

What is the best time to trade gold in Malaysia and Singapore?

For most traders it is the evening: the London open at 15:00 or 16:00 and especially the US session from about 20:00 to 01:00, when US data is released and London and New York overlap. Our heatmap shows the biggest average hourly moves in the 20:00 and 21:00 MYT hours during US summer time.

When is the daily break for gold in Malaysia and Indonesia?

Gold pauses for about an hour at 5:00–6:00 pm New York time. That is 05:00–06:00 MYT and SGT (04:00–05:00 WIB) during US summer time, and 06:00–07:00 MYT and SGT (05:00–06:00 WIB) in winter. Spreads are often wide just before and after it.

What time does gold close on Friday in Malaysia?

The weekly close is 5:00 pm Friday New York time, which is early Saturday morning in South-East Asia: 05:00 on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore (04:00 in Jakarta) during US summer time, and 06:00 (05:00 in Jakarta) in winter.
