Today's gold price in Ankara
The international price puts a gram of 24k gold in Ankara at roughly 6,408 TRY today, with 22k at about 5,875 TRY. Per 10 grams, a common size for small bars and rate boards, that is about 64,085 TRY for 24k. These are spot-based figures, before any tax, premium or making charge. As the capital, Ankara follows the Istanbul price closely, and banks' gold accounts are widely used by salaried buyers.
What moves the gold price in Ankara
Everything on a Ankara rate board starts from the same place: the dollar price of gold (about $4,007.9 an ounce today) converted at the USD/TRY rate of 49.733. The lira has lost a large share of its value against the dollar over the past decade, so the lira gold price has risen far faster than the dollar price. For Turkish households gold is a hedge against the currency as much as an investment in gold itself.
The dollar price itself responds to US interest-rate expectations, the strength of the dollar, inflation data, central-bank buying and geopolitical risk. Our guide to what moves gold prices covers each in turn.
Premiums, making charges and tax in Ankara
The shelf price in Ankara is higher than the converted figure above. A shop adds the jeweller's margin, workmanship (iscilik) on jewellery and any tax that applies. On jewellery, making charges are quoted as workmanship (iscilik) on top of the gram price and highest on finely worked pieces, so two pieces of the same weight and purity can carry very different prices. The 'gram altin' price is for 24k; wedding bracelets (bilezik) are 22 ayar; everyday jewellery is often 14 ayar; and quarter, half and full Republic coins are 22k.
Where gold is bought in Ankara
Jewellers in Ulus, the old centre, and in Kizilay and the large malls sell coins, bracelets and jewellery. When comparing shops, ask for the gold rate per gram, the purity, the making charge and the buy-back price separately; that is the only way to see which offer is really cheaper.
Buying seasons in Ankara
Weddings and engagements, with gifts of quarter coins and bracelets, and the religious holidays bring the most buying. Across Türkiye, demand is strongest around weddings and engagements, where gold coins and bracelets are given as gifts, and the religious holidays. Seasonal demand tends to show up in shop premiums, promotions and queues rather than in the international price, which is set by global flows. Knowing the calendar helps explain why a local quote can look expensive or cheap against this page in a given week.
Gold market hours in Ankara
The international gold market trades almost around the clock on weekdays. In Ankara the London–New York overlap, usually the busiest and most volatile part of the day, runs today from about 15:00–19:00 local time. The two LBMA Gold Price auctions in London, at 10:30 and 15:00 London time, fall at 12:30 and 17:00 in Ankara, and major US data released at 08:30 New York time, such as payrolls and inflation, lands at 15:30 local time. The week's trading closes at 00:00 on Saturday and reopens at 02:00 on Monday, Ankara time; over the weekend the price on this page is the last close. Borsa Istanbul runs a precious metals market, and banks offer gold accounts quoted per gram that follow the international price and the lira. Our gold market hours tool shows the sessions in any time zone.
Ankara compared with Istanbul
Ankara and Istanbul both price gold in TRY off the same international price and the same exchange rate, so the converted figure is identical: about 6,408 TRY per gram of 24k in both. Any difference at the counter comes from making charges, dealer premiums and how hard the shops compete.
How this TRY gold price is calculated
Three numbers decide everything on this page. First, the international gold price in US dollars per troy ounce: $4,007.9 at the last update. Second, the exchange rate: 1 USD = 49.733 TRY. Third, the weight: one troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, and one tola is 11.6638 grams.
- Price per gram in USD = $4,007.9 ÷ 31.1035 = $128.86.
- Price per gram in TRY = $128.86 × 49.733 = 6,408 TRY (24k, pure gold).
- Price per 10 grams = 6,408 × 10 = 64,085 TRY.
- For a lower purity, multiply by the fineness: 22k = 0.9167, 21k = 0.875, 18k = 0.750.
The gold price comes from COMEX gold futures, which track spot XAUUSD closely but are not identical to it. The exchange rate is a mid-market rate; the rate your bank or money changer gives you will be slightly different. What this price does not include
The figures above are the international spot price converted into local currency. They are the starting point for every retail price in Ankara, but they are not the price you will pay or receive at a shop. The retail or "jeweller" price adds some or all of these on top:
- Import duty or customs charges, where the country imports most of its gold.
- Sales tax, GST or VAT, which may apply to jewellery, to bars and coins, or to both, depending on local law.
- Dealer premium: the margin a bullion dealer or bank adds to the spot price for bars and coins, usually larger on small pieces.
- Making charges (labour) on jewellery, often a percentage of the gold value or a fixed amount per gram.
- Local supply and demand, which can push the physical price to a premium or a discount against the international price for weeks at a time.
When you sell, the buyer usually quotes below the spot-based number and deducts for purity testing, wear and sometimes stones. The gap between the buying and the selling price is the real cost of owning physical gold, and it varies a lot between shops, so it is worth asking several.
Frequently asked questions
What is the gold rate today in Ankara?
At the last update, 24k gold in Ankara was about 6,408 TRY per gram and 64,085 TRY per 10 grams, with 22k at about 5,875 TRY per gram. That is the international price converted at the latest exchange rate; the figures at the top of the page refresh automatically. Shop prices in Ankara are higher because they add the jeweller’s margin, workmanship (iscilik) on jewellery and any tax that applies.
What is the difference between 22k and 24k gold in Ankara?
24k is pure gold (99.9%); 22k is 91.67% gold, so it costs about 8.3% less per gram: roughly 5,875 TRY against 6,408 TRY today. The ‘gram altin’ price is for 24k; wedding bracelets (bilezik) are 22 ayar; everyday jewellery is often 14 ayar; and quarter, half and full Republic coins are 22k. You pay for the gold content, so always check the stated purity and hallmark.
Why is the jeweller's price in Ankara different from this page?
This page shows the spot price converted into TRY with nothing added. A shop in Ankara adds the jeweller’s margin, workmanship (iscilik) on jewellery and any tax that applies. Making charges are quoted as workmanship (iscilik) on top of the gram price and highest on finely worked pieces. Shops may also update their rate only a few times a day, so on fast-moving days their board can lag the live price in either direction.
Is gold cheaper in Istanbul than in Ankara?
Not on the gold itself. Ankara and Istanbul use the same TRY price, about 6,408 TRY per gram for 24k at the last update. Differences between shops come from making charges, premiums and margins, so comparing several quotes in either city matters more than the city.
When is the best time to buy gold in Ankara?
We cannot tell you when to buy, and nobody can forecast prices reliably. What is known is the calendar: in Ankara, demand peaks around weddings and engagements, where gold coins and bracelets are given as gifts, and the religious holidays, which tends to affect shop premiums and promotions rather than the international price. The price itself moves most during the London–New York overlap, about 15:00–19:00 local time. Compare today’s figure with the 7-day table and 30-session chart, and decide based on your own reasons and time frame. This is education, not advice.
Where is gold sold in Ankara?
Jewellers in Ulus, the old centre, and in Kizilay and the large malls sell coins, bracelets and jewellery. Ask each shop for the gold rate, purity, making charge and buy-back price separately before comparing.
